Ziyad received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Finance from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, in 1987. He received his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1990 and was admitted to the Illinois State Bar the same year. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 2002. Ziyad also is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Central District of California and for the Northern District of Illinois.
While attending law school, Ziyad authored The Permissibility of Routine AIDS Testing in the Health Care Context, Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy, published in September of 1990. Later, he co-authored an article titled U.S. Legal Review, published in Reinsurance (November, 1996 and November, 1997 issues). He also co-authored the Update of the Law of Reinsurance Claims (Andrews Publication, 1997). He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar Associations of California and Illinois, the Chicago and San Luis Obispo Bar Associations, and the Arab-American Bar Association. He also is a board member of the Foundation for the Performing Arts, in San Luis Obispo.
Ziyad is a partner and co-founder of Carmel & Naccasha LLP. He counsels domestic and international companies, their shareholders and officers in a variety of matters relating to their formation, business structure, litigation and insurance needs. Ziyad also serves as one of the firm's primary litigators, focusing on commercial, public agency, real property and insurance litigation matters. He also represents domestic and international insurers and reinsurers in a variety of matters, including cases involving general liability coverage (primary, umbrella, and excess), professional liability coverage, and bad faith matters.
